In the first part of this series, we have covered the very first thing you need to do when you setup blog, that is, to decide which niche you will be concentrating on. Here we will continue showing you how to perform domain name searches easily and without the headaches that can come with it, all the while keeping in mind blog optimization in order to generate web traffic.

Once you have chosen your niche, which should be the very first step to setup blog, and made sure that your niche should be something that you are familiar with and have a passion for, next would be to choose a good domain name or what is also known as a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) or a web address.

If you are intending to brand yourself with your blog, it is better to purchase your own domain name. Many people start off with free blogs at blogspot.com or wordpress.com. However many have also faced huge problems when their blogs get shut down, which has happened. Or what will happen if the company goes out of business and your blog is no longer in existence and you have already built up a loyal readership? Purchasing your own domain name should prevent any problems in future.

Your domain name will last you a lifetime. So make it something memorable and easy to remember. It can be a combination of words, preferably not more than three and definitely something that makes sense. Try to keep within twenty characters and do not use numbers or dashes. Also you would want to avoid spam words such as ‘free’.

It is easier for someone to remember a domain like “SuccessToWealth.com”, a combination of three words rather than “LearnHowToCreateSuccessToWealth.com”. Also if your domain is “Success2Wealth”, some people may key in “SuccessToWealth.com” and land on someone else’s site and you lose your traffic. “Success_To_Wealth.com” is not a good idea too as it can become a little complicated.

Besides the usual sites where you can search for and purchase domain names from, such as NameCheap.com and GoDaddy.com, you can search for expired domain names as well to help you save time on brainstorming your domain name by checking out makewords.com. This is a very useful site that can save you quite a bit of your precious time as you can find some real domain name treasures over there. It is also a site that I make use of all the time once I came across it and use it at every opportunity I get.

GoDaddy has certain coupons where you can get discounted rates. You can find these promotional rates at godaddy.promo-code.net and applies to domain names as well as web hosting.

I would suggest not to go with companies, even well known names, offering ridiculously low rates for domain names like $1.99 in the first year because you will be jumping for joy in that first year. However, in my personal experience, that was what I did and I was charged $12.99 in the second year which is still reasonable, but the price almost tripled in the third year to $34.95! Gosh! Don’t believe how they can rip you off just like that!

So now you have your niche and done your domain name searches. Next will be to setup your blog and create content. We all know that content is king. At the same time, you will also want to look into blog optimization in order to be able to generate web traffic, build your list as well as acquire new visitors from search engines.
