What is humanity? Humanity refers to the qualities that make us humane; qualities such as kindness, generosity, compassion, love, etc. that reside within and define a human being. In every person, there lies an instinct to help others, to be gentle and considerate towards feelings of others, to try not to bother or hurt anyone. This very instinct to care for people, their needs and emotions, without any selfish motive, is called humanity. A generous heart, kind speech, a life of compassion and service – all reflect humanity. But the moment our priority changes to pursuing one’s own individual interests, we lose humanity. Mere external actions of obliging others cannot be classified as humanity; it is the subtle heartfelt concern behind it, the genuine desire to help the other person, a sincere internal intent to reduce his suffering that constitutes humanity. How do we practice humanity?... •By maintaining a constant inner intent to help others. •And wherever we get an opportunity, using our mind, body and speech to sincerely serve others whole-heartedly and selflessly, without thinking of ‘what will I receive in return?’ •And when not having a chance to help people, at least making sure we do not hurt anyone in any way. •At every instance, keeping the thought, ‘How would I feel if it happened to me?’ constantly ticking in our mind. eg. If we were to find a bundle of Rs. 150000/- lying on a barren road, we should immediately think, ‘If I would lose Rs. 150000/-, how would I feel? The person whose money it is too would be feeling the same right now.’ Bearing this thought in mind, helping in whatever manner we can to make this money reach his owner is humanity. •Treating others the way we like to be treated and by giving others what we like to receive; but never giving anyone something that we do not like. eg, if we don’t like someone abusing us, making sure we never abuse anyone in life. •Always trying to contribute to happiness of others and doing nothing that makes anyone unhappy. So, you see... to practice humanity, one does not need to be intelligent, rich or perfect; being humane is all that is required! Humanity brings peace and happiness in worldly life...rnOur happiness begins from the moment we do something for others. And the natural law of cause and effect is such that whatever we send out eventually returns to us manifold. So when we give out happiness, Nature in turn rewards us with abundant happiness and convenience in life. Moreover, when people see you care for others more than yourself, it inspires them; and sooner or later kindness gets reflected in their gestures too, thus opening the doors of happiness and peace in their life too. Humanity gets reciprocated by humanity, and slowly the whole world changes for the good.rnServing your own self too... There are two kinds of services: 1.Service to the world and rn2.Service to the Self. By serving the world, we progress on the path of humanity! But while serving, we believe, 'I am doing this service', isn’t it? This is called egoism. The ego of humanity is no doubt for a good cause, and therefore it gets us worldly happiness and material wealth. But, ego is ego; it is the very cause for the suffering of birth and death, life after life too. So, if we are looking for permanent happiness, it is possible only when our ego is gone!rnEgo is born out of ignorance of ‘Who am I?’ So for ego to go, we must realize 'Who am I'. rnWe can realize ‘Who am I’ when Gnani graces us with the knowledge of the Self!! That’s when the pure service begins – the service that is rendered without the impurity of live ego behind it. Now, the mind, speech and body can render the best service to the world and rise in humanity; and we can render the best service to the Self (the Soul) and rise in spirituality. Humanity brings us worldly happiness and spirituality brings with it the permanent happiness!! Please visit this link to know more:-rnhttps://www.dadabhagwan.org/path-to-happiness/humanity/

According to the spiritual science of Akram Vignan, the meaning of ‘selfless’ is to live one’s life for the sole purpose of serving others, by whatever means one can and according to one’s skill set and ability; and to do so without expecting anything whatsoever in return.
