Working in a mental health clinic and doing home health care, I worked with many disabled people. I also am legally blind and have had life experience with some of the problems associated with having a disability. One of the most difficult challenges for disabled people is the lack of self esteem due to a negative self image. This is true because of social attitudes which promote negative self beliefs.

Hypnosis cds can help to change negative beliefs and negative self image into more productive beliefs and a more positive self image. These changes promote a more successful rehabilitation. When the hypnosis cds are used every day and the rational coping statements are used along with them, rational beli9efs replace the destructive beliefs. These new beliefs create life success.

I worked with a woman who was disabled with chronic back pain and chronic mental illness. She was hunched over and felt that she was ugly. She had failed in the rehabilitation system and had been living on a disability check for five years. She felt that her life was hopeless. She believed that she was a burden to others and felt that nothing would ever change for her. After disputing her irrational beliefs regularly, she went to school and became a medical assistant. The hypnosis helped her to manage the pain and to lose weight. She felt more beautiful as well. She is working and doing well today.

Another client had chronic mental illness, diabetes, asthma, epilepsy and was over weight. She felt that she was a failure. She had a master’s degree in Social Work and had another degree in business administration. She felt that she was ugl6y and would never work. She spent at least two weeks out of a month in a psychiatric hospital. She felt depressed most of the time. She reported that she could not accept herself and could not even be proud of her accomplishments. This caused her to become more depressed and anxious. Her asthma attacks increased and she often was noncompliant with her diabetic diet. After using hypnosis cds and having aggressive hypnotherapy, she now works part time in a resource Center for the mentally ill. She feels beautiful and intelligent. She also enjoys her work and has stayed out of the hospital for two years.

I also had a client who went to a local hypnotist to stop smoking. He encouraged the client so much that she not only stopped smoking, but got a job as a daycare teacher. This male hypnotist promoted positive beliefs in the client and gave her hope for success. She enjoyed relaxing to his voice and felt like he believed in her. She transferred his positive beliefs to herself and became successful. What contributed to their success? The new images that were planted in the minds of the clients changed the beliefs. The positive beliefs developed into success. The clients believed in the possibility of success and took actions that promoted success in their lives. Any person can change the direction of their life by changing the direction. Hypnosis can be a useful tool to help to open the door to new possibilities.

It is important to develop a good working relationship with your hypnotist. Every one is different. This means that you should find someone who has a voice that you can relax with and a working style that appeals to you. I have recommended that people look for someone else and have sometimes known of a good hypnotherapist who would be a better match. In these cases, I feel strongly that the person would be better served by a person with a similar philosophy to promote success. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and to explore your options. It is your life.
