When you are getting ready to practice self hypnosis you will need to find a quiet, comfortable, and safe place. The location in which you practice must feel safe to you while you’re thinking rationally and cognitively. This will help you achieve the hypnotic state more quickly and maintain it more effectively.

You will practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing, picturing calming mental images, or listen to music that brings you peace. All of these techniques are similar to those used by individuals who meditate to relieve stress and anxiety.

The process of guiding yourself into a hypnotic state will take some work. Using an audio or visual aid in which a hypnotherapist teaches you the necessary steps in achieving and maintaining self hypnosis often makes the mastery of the process easier.
