If you suffer from writer’s block it can feel extremely frustrating. When writing is your profession getting writer’s block can be detrimental to your income, but even if you only write for the pleasure of it writer’s block can be difficult to deal with. Writer’s block can make you feel like your creativity is cut off. This can be problematic on many levels. When this happens to the typical artist they feel that it is somehow out of their control. As if their creativity is some outside force that works in a mysterious way they don’t understand.

The truth is that our creativity is under our control. When dealing with writer’s block this might be more difficult to hear, but it is the truth. We are creative beings and it is easy to tap into that fountain at any time; although when in the thick of a writer’s block episode it might be difficult to see that.

The key to getting rid of writer’s block is to recognize that you do have control over your creative functions. You can push your creative blocks out of your way and keep on writing. There are many things that can be done to help writers pull out of that blocked space, but one that has been proven to be effective over and over again is hypnosis.

Some of the reasons that writer’s get into a blocked situation are mostly due to self judgment. Fear of failure, fear of success, low self esteem, fear of other’s judgments, or unresolved past trauma. Any of these things could cause a serious case of writer’s block. You don’t have to know the reason that you are feeling blocked to be profoundly affected by its devastation. What is important is a willingness to discover where your block is coming from and take step to move past it.

Hypnosis works be moving past your thinking self to a deeper you. The thinking self is also the most critical self. This part of you means to keep you safe, but sometimes that safety gets too protective and this is when it no longer serves. Hypnosis helps to get to the root of the block and either helps you to remove it or give you the ability to get around it. Some of the ways in which hypnosis can help to remove writer’s block is with techniques like; discovering the root of the block, using post-hypnotic suggestion to move past it, and imaginative destruction.

Let’s look at these unblocking writer’s block techniques one at a time.

Getting to the root of the cause – When working to discover the root of a problem a hypnotherapist will put their patient into a light trance state. From this place the patient will be able to hear the suggestions given by the therapist and will be able to respond with what they are seeing and feeling from the given suggestions. By using a guided meditation process the hypnotherapist will be able to help their patients get to the root of their problem and determine what the cause is.

Post-hypnotic suggestion – A hypnotherapist might use post-hypnotic suggestion to imbed a specific response into your subconscious. They do this by leaving cues for a certain pattern of events. When the patient is then under this series of event in their waking life they will follow the post-hypnotic suggestion. Often this is used to help someone change a negative pattern into a more positive one.

Imaginative destruction – If dealing with a real block or trauma a hypnotherapist might use imaginative destruction to let go of that trauma or block. This is done by leading the patient through a guided meditation or trance state. During this trance the hypnotherapist will allow the patient to come up to their trauma or block and break through it. This can be done in metaphor to help release the pain of a situation that is no longer serving.

Through these methods a hypnotherapist is able to change patterns and help writer’s and other creative individuals move past being stuck in a block phase and back into a creative one.

What is important for creative’s to know is that a creative block can be broken. Each individual has it in their control to change a negative pattern or remove a block. Hypnosis is just one of the tool available to writer’s to get unstuck.
