For many of us, our true self means our personality. However, for those dedicated to reaching enlightenment through discovering their true self, often with the aid of hypnosis, it means much more.
Our true self is known by many names. Depending on your spiritual beliefs, you may call it your soul or your spirit. Others refer to it as their higher self, indicating that it is the part of themselves which most closely resembles their higher power. Whichever name you know it by; you can discover it or come to understand it more fully through the use of hypnosis.
We often stand in awe of the spiritually enlightened. They radiate love and peace, they don't indulge in unnecessary fears, and they exude an almost palpable sense of serenity. We often recognize this same pure view of the world in very small children. They have not gone through the trials of life yet, and so their view is unobstructed by learned fears and limitations. They believe they can do just about anything they set their minds to. While we often dismiss this belief as childlike, it is exactly this belief in ones' self that spiritual seekers strive to attain.
A Childlike Attitude
Consider a small child. They are born with this view of the world. As they are raised, they slowly learn that people have limitations. Physically and mentally, they are taught that there are things they simply can't do.
In some obvious instances, these teachings are correct. A person can't fly, for example, or hold their breath indefinitely without fainting.
Many of these teachings are indirect. Children hear and see their parents complaining about daily life and work, and many of the things they say are negative. This instills in a child, from infancy onward, a sense that life is dangerous, full of negative things, and ultimately something to be feared. This fear is often buried deep within the subconscious, but it exists in nearly every person.
This is a result of years and years of neglect of the spirit, or the true self. Emotions are often the last thing tended to during busy times, if they are ever tended to. This is natural; obviously a person needs to work in order to keep a roof over their head. However, it's imperative that we take some time out of our schedules, no matter how short, to nurture and recognize the true self within, in order to avoid nurturing these negative beliefs.
One popular way people choose to do this is through hypnosis. No matter the method, this form of hypnosis and self-hypnosis can be invaluable when it comes to reconnecting with our true selves, and becoming happier and more productive people in the process.
The Process Itself
This form of hypnosis is like any other in that you should begin with a quiet room, soothing background noise, and no distractions. A hypnotherapist will do all of this for you; if you're using an at-home method, you must create such a space for yourself.

After relaxing in this manner, you will be guided to an even deeper level of relaxation, the trance state commonly known as hypnosis. In this state, you are in touch with your subconscious mind, and you are very open to suggestion. Your practitioner, or recording, will likely make suggestions that lead you to recognize your fears and limiting beliefs. Ultimately, the goal is to eliminate these, allowing you to believe, as children do, that nearly anything is within your reach if you work hard enough for it.
No matter what your goal, connecting with your true self will allow you to experience the pure love and joy that comes with spiritual awakening and hypnosis is a very useful tool in making this important connection.
