âI Have Stretch Marks, So What?â
“I have stretch marks.” This is a common declaration and you might have admitted to the same statement. No matter how people say not to be insecure about it, we can’t help but feel negative about ourselves. Fact is, stretch marks are difficult to erase. True. The good news is, it may be difficult to do it but it is totally possible.
What are stretch marks?
The other term for stretch marks are striae. They can be described as presence of scarring located on your skin. Stretch marks can be found anywhere around your body, but they are more likely to occur and appear in an area in which fat is stored. Examples are your hips and buttocks, abdominal area, thighs, upper arms.
What causes stretch marks?
Many people believe that the cause of stretch marks is when you gain weight and your skin begins to stretch. They are true, for a major factor that concludes to stretch marks is stretching of your skin. This though isn’t the only cause. So, what causes stretch marks beside that? There are layers of your skin, the epidermis the subcutaneous layer and the layer between them, the dermis, due to a tearing of this area, stretch marks appear. Hormones in our body also can result to striae. Our body especially our dermis needs support, needs something to hold our skin in place these substances are called fibroblasts, elastin fibers and collage in which all together helps supports the dermis and helps to avoid tearing of such part. Our hormones are responsible for being that substance. Glucocorticoids (hormone) are produced by your adrenal glands, and this hormone in which is responsible why you have stretch marks for they prevent fibroblasts from forming those elastin fibers and collagen. Women who just gave birth, a person gaining weight, using steroids, puberty and hormonal changes are other causes of stretch marks.
How to fade stretch marks?
There are many procedures that one can do to prevent stretch marks. Number one factor to consider about is the way you live by eating the right foods, exercise, and by just living a healthy lifestyle. Other medical procedures that can be done are laser treatments and procedures. Always remember to consult your doctor and talk to them for their opinion.
