One day while painting a house, I ran into a friend who was one of the finest roofing contractors Salt Lake City. I was a newly married and trying to earn a living while going to school. Lee, the roofing contractor just mentioned, said he was looking for some good roofing help, where he would be willing to train in the art of laying shingles. He never search Facebook Twitter or anywhere else for help because, first of all, the didn't exist at that time. We sat around for awhile listening to Lee talk about pro roofing, the ins and outs of roofing services and how to find roofing solutions. It was all very fascinating. Lee was a roofing contractor who spent many years in the industry. He was listed in the yellow pages but he said most of his work came from using service consultants who recommended him because he was among the best roofing contractors Salt Lake City. Lee said he got his start just like us. He knew a great roofing contractor who taught him the ropes. Contractors roofing homes is the only way to go, he always professed. Using professional roofing contractors eliminated the problems associated with hiring non-contractors. A pro roofing specialist could always find the best roofing solutions. That was important because not every roof is the same. Because the conditions of roofs vary and you can always be surprised by the strange things homeowners do to their roofs while building additions or adding windows that did to meet building codes or roofing codes. He entertained us for hours with roofing stories, some illustrating the proficiency of pro roofing contractors and others illustrating the ineptness of those professing to be roofing to be certified roofing contractors. He drove us around the neighborhood pointing out roofs that were done by contractors and others who were done by who knows whom. Every house has ridges where at least two sides come together. Special shingles are laid over the ridges as caps. The easiest way to tell if a roof was done by a non-professional roof contractor is in the straightness of that ridge. Most ridges done by non-pros looked like horses legs. That was his favorite term. If a roof job was not done right, it looked like a horses leg. We always had a good laugh with that. My friend and I joined up with Lee and we did many roofs together. He made sure to teach us the correct way to roof following the correct roofing procedures and roofing services. I'll admit though, the first couple of roofs we did were difficult just in finding the right position to sit while nailing shingles. Most roofing contractors Salt Lake City nowadays, use nail guns and compressors, but in those days roofing contractors used a hammer and a pouch of nails. I loved roofing back then because it was good exercise. We used to load those 90 lbs shingles on our shoulders and carry them up a latter. I was brutishly strong because of it. The average house used about 150 of those bundles of shingles. Lee also taught us to use the best products because good products made all the difference in the world. He always stressed getting our roofing supplies and materials from Warburton's and from that day forward we never strayed from that advice.
