Indian Administrative Services (IAS) has be a sought after career since a very long time. The status, responsibility and the perks attached to it has led thousands of people striving very hard to achieve these higher echelons in the government service. Every year lakhs of people tries to achieve this by giving a national level exam known as Union Public services commission (UPSC). The exam is done on three phases first are the Preliminary, the Main Exam and then the Interview. The preliminary consists of two objective type papers (General studies and Aptitude Test), and the Main Exam consist of nine papers and followed by the Personality Test that is the Interview. For the IAS Preliminary exam this exam will be objective in nature and consists of two papers paper I and paper II and each paper is of 200 marks each according to the new Civil service Aptitude Test (CSAT) which the government has introduced in 2011. The syllabus for paper I includes current and international event, History of India, World geography, Indian Polity, Economic and Social Development, Poverty, sustainable development, social sector initiative, general issues on environment ecology, climate change, and General science. And for paper II includes comprehension, Interpersonal and communication skills, logical reasoning and analytical ability, decision making and problem solving, general metal ability, Basic numeracy and data interpretation and English language comprehension skills. For the Main exam the paper consists of nine papers. The first paper carries 300 marks and an Indian language which the candidate can choose, the second paper is English of 300 marks while the third paper is an essay of 200 marks, paper four and five are of general studies and is 300 marks each, while paper six to nine are on two subjects that the candidate can chooses, each subjects is of 300 marks each. If a candidate clears the preliminary and the main exam he/she will be called for an interview that will test the overall personality of the candidates and this also carries 300 marks. Clearing this exam needs a lot of efforts and preparations, one needs to go through a thorough study from CBSE books right from class VIII, Learn about Indian history, Current event of national and international importance, candidates can also take up coaching classes and there are also books available that will help in clearing this exam, candidates can clear logical reasoning and analytical ability by going through the previous year’s question papers that are available online.
