IATA offers stringent rules regarding hazardous materials

A hazard causes problems in human life or property or the environment. Hazard classification helps to identify the different types of threats which are caused from various sources. To control, there are management systems and trainings available throughout the world. One such is IATA which deals with every kind of dilemmas regarding air transport of hazardous materials.

Without proper knowledge and training it is very difficult to identify and deal with problems. Remember, stored energy can cause damage in the form of chemical, mechanical or radioactive. Likelihood of the hazard turning into an incidence and seriousness of the same is measured for classification. The risk is computed by multiplying the likelihood and the seriousness. A low score results to dormant hazards whereas high score is an active one.

The International Air Transport Association or IATA training is required for people who want to get involved in air transport. This form of education has four levels extending from business to tourism to essential air transportation etc. It also deals with hazard classification, handling, management and consultation. The practical trainings help to develop better ideas to tackle daily incidents.

rnThere are various classes of hazards such as class 1 which is inflammable vapor. Class 2 has less risk and class 3 causes less fire. There are divisions as well, such as division 1, 2 and 3 specifying in details the nature of the hazards. The classes are further divided into groups. The group A represents where acetylene is present. Group B is where hydrogen is present and group C is where ethylene is present.

Through this association, trainings are given to tackle certain mishaps. The security measures are taught to the students which are required for air, sea and roadways. The body has already formulated a set of rules and regulations for the whole system which are to be followed by every air transporter. The unsafe materials are to be thoroughly checked before moving to the destination.

The IATA has also provided some provisions which deals with hazard classification for better recognition, marking, packaging, labeling and documentation for travelling through air. Also flow of dangerous goods can be restricted if it feels that the environment would be polluted.

The problems can be solved through strict guidelines similar to what is given by IATA. However the knowledge regarding hazard classification should be given to every people so that quick remedies can be taken.
