Often in schools and movies and books, you see classroom scenes where students are made to write down on chalk on the blackboard or on paper using pens a statement over and over again often as a punishment like “I will never lie or cheat or steal or whatever…” It even played a prominent part in one of the Harry Potter books and movies.
I think the reason this is so common is because people understand at some level how much importance writing down something is to the subconscious mind.
* People who write down goals are more likely to achieve them than people who do not write them down.
* People who want to get a better grip on their finances spend less money when they start to record what they spend money on each day.
* People who want to lose weight often find that writing down or recording in a journal what they eat each day helps them to eat less and to eat better.
* People who want to work more closely with the law of attraction often are drawn to write out a vision board.
* People who want to attract more money by cultivating gratitude and thankfulness can ignite this process through maintaining a gratitude journal, reading it over each day and adding new items to it.
I think that the reason why writing something down is so powerful is that it activates the reticular activation system of the brain. The subconscious mind filters out so much stuff but when we write out something the power of the subconscious mind aligns with the conscious mind to focus on the written objective and to make it happen. This is the underlying theory behind psycho-cybe
etics.
I have known for a long time what an important role that intent and gratitude play in creating a life that works. I also know that how we begin each day and how we end each day is very important to our subconscious mind. Whenever I begin working with a new affirmation, I often write it out a lot of times to hard wire it into my consciousness.
I recently read a book about the power of writing in manifestation – Write It Down, Make it Happen: Knowing What you Want – And Getting It - and it inspired me to begin a new spiritual discipline.
Each morning now the first thing I do is record in a notebook that I bought specifically for this purpose a page where I write out what I intend my day to be like. And every night – just before I go to bed – I write out all the things I feel thankful for.
I really am enjoying this process and I highly recommend it for everyone. It really helps me to set the tone of the day energetically and close the day on a note of thankfulness. This practice is great fun and very joyful.
