Career objectives can add plenty of weight to a resume. There are two schools of thoughts on whether you should include an objective statement in a resume. Some career counselors support the use of career objectives while there are others who are against the same. So, are career objectives truly an important part of a jobseeker’s resume? Well, it actually depends on the purpose you use it for. Though many employers prefer seeing career objectives, there are others who think most of these statements look just the same. Perhaps that’s one reason that has loosened the weight of an objective statement. Writing career objectives is no less than an art. It’s one of those resume sections where you need to make the most impact by using as fewer words as possible. Employers actually expect to see what jobseekers have to say in this section. In fact, career objectives offer jobseekers an excellent opportunity to set themselves apart from the rest of the applicants. If your resume objective is poorly constructed or looks like others’, you can easily distract the attention of the employer. On the other hand, not using an objective statement on your resume gives employers the idea that you are not sure about what you are actually looking for. Career objectives are extremely important because they can let employers know within seconds what you have to offer. While reading the same, employers expect to know what you can do for them and others can’t. A well-written objective can also attract employers to have a closer look at your resume. That definitely increases your chances of landing an interview. According to many career experts, cover letters can do the job that you want to accomplish through a career objective. In fact, a cover letters gives you abundant opportunities to highlight your purpose as compared to an objective statement. Many applicants, therefore, don’t prefer committing themselves to career objectives. They do it through the cover letter. Though it’s a personal choice as to whether you should write a career objective on your resume, it’s also advisable not to avoid them completely. What’s important is that you are aware of the techniques that you can use to write an impressive objective. There are a few things that you should keep in mind while writing an objective statement on the job resume. First and foremost, you should try to answer the employer’s specific requirements. Make it as concise and succinct as possible. While writing this section, you should focus on how you can contribute towards the overall growth of the organization. In case you leave out the objective on your resume, you should include it in the cover letter.
