Human papillomavirus, or HPV as some call it, is a type of virus that results in a skin abnormality known as genital warts. There are various kinds of these viruses, examples are HPV 16, 18, 31, and many more. But the most common type is the HPV 6 and 11, which is a lot safer than the others first mentioned, because they tend to have lower risks of developing into cancer. With so many types of viruses, the good thing is that there are many options and genital wart treatment methods to cure them. You should always keep in mind that genital warts are highly contagious and the most common reason that these are transmitted is through sexual contact. People at the age of 17 up to 33 years old are the most to be reported with such cases, and about 1/4 of them are discovered to have other sexually transmitted diseases too. There are many symptoms that would tell that you are probably developing genital warts, although the problem most of the time is that these signs tend to show up after some months, and in other cases, it takes years. The most obvious sign that you might probably see is the growth of lumps on your genitals which are commonly reddish or grayish in color. Female genital parts also tend to secrete more fluids than usual on the affected area. Actually, genital warts are supposed to be painless or numb on the particular area affected, but some cases reported that they feel a burning sensation and sometimes severe itchy or irritating feeling on the part with warts. Other women also suddenly bleed after an intercourse. If this signs show up in your body, then you should really think of going to a hospital to get assessed, just to be sure what it is and if it is genital warts, it should be treated immediately before it gets worst. Buying medicines, especially over the counter drugs are not advisable unless advised and prescribed by your doctor. Self medicating too is not a good thing to do since these warts are highly contagious even just by touching them. The commonly used medicines are Aldara, Alferon N, Condylox, Efudex, Podofin, and Veregen, which are probably adhered by your doctor. Basically, three types of methods are commonly used in treating genital warts, one is the electrodessication. This procedure uses electrical current to slowly kill the virus in the affected area. Cryotherapy is another method, which freezes the warts to eventually take it out by using liquid nitrogen. Laser treatment is also an option to treat warts, which is done using laser rays to destroy the warts. If the warts are still small in size and number, surgery can also be performed. The only thing about this method is that it has a higher chance of warts recurring. Other people also try various methods like ayurveda, acupressure, and acupuncture. Always keep in mind that there is no definite or guaranteed genital wart treatment. Every case still has a high chance of recurring, so be aware of it since it can still be contagious. If you have been previously treated and the warts are removed, you can support this by having a proper and balanced diet. Eating a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits, especially those rich in vitamin C can help strengthen your immunity to lessen your risk of acquiring these viruses again.
