Users have always preferred storage devices which are easy to use and portable. This has resulted in the innovation of different types of portable hard drives. Nowadays, most computers have own ports and USB connections in them. Hence USB hard drive has become so popular. This is nothing but a data storage device consisting of flash memory with an integrated USB interface. These are easily removable and re-writable and also ensure easy portability. While working with computers and laptops with internet connection, there is always a chance of losing data and you can’t ignore the aspect of theft too, as far as your laptop is concerned. Hence, people are opting for USB devices to maintain backups. Sizes can vary in between 1 gigabyte to a huge 64 gigabytes. The price range will vary accordingly. It is possible to get a lesser capacity drive for a price of $20. However, those willing to shell out several hundred dollars can easily get the USB drive of 32 or 64 gigabyte capacity. For organizational setups, you will need much more storage space but for home computers, the need won’t be that high. One of the main advantages of USB hard drive is easy portability. You can take the drive any where you want. You can store all important and confidential data and keep the hard disk in a safe and secure location. Even you can get these external hard disks comes with additional security software so that you can secure data. Anyone interested in accessing this data needs to provide the right user name and password. Apart from backup and easy portability, the USB hard drive can be utilized for transferring data between different computers, placed at different locations. The file transfer process from computer to computer can become oddly complicated sometimes, and you may need to place them right next to each other for successful completion of the process. With the USB drive, the entire process can be simplified just by dragging and dropping your files and folders to whatever location you want. Take care of the Mbps i.e. “Megabits per second,” of the device while buying. It is nothing but the speed at which your file will be transferred from a computer to the USB device or vice versa. Usually the speed ranges between 30 or 50 Mbps or even more. Larger your USB drive capacity, quicker will be the file transfer rate. This is only because larger files need to be transferred faster. When you are going to store valuable information, then the security issue must be coming in your mind. You can get USB hard drive with encryption features that ensure maximum protection to your important data. Though it is not a standard feature among USB drives but they are available at an extra cost and many prove to be invaluable to those who need to travel frequently with this device. Physically speaking, these devices are quite robust and can withstand rough handling too.
