Why do yoga? One of the important reasons is to learn how to control your breathing and how to properly do it. You may not be aware but your breathing has a lot to do with your physical and mental well-being every day. Do you notice breathing faster when you are stressed or anxious? Imagine if you can make your breathing steady, this will lessen the anxiety you are feeling. With monitored breathing, stress is relieved and the min body and spirit is calmer.
The second reason on why do yoga is its physical wellness. Just like any other form of exercise, the body engages in physical activity to tone the muscles, develop strength and increase the flexibility of the muscles and joints. You may ask, “You just sit and pose for 30minutes, how are you working out?” You will be surprised to know that doing yoga for 30 minutes is just the same as running. The yoga poses will require a lot of effort as you have to support your own weight.
The third reason on doing yoga is to increase in mindfulness. Yoga teaches you breathing techniques that will help clear the mind. The mind can be easily stressed with all the things you want to do and think about. During yoga, your mind will only be focused on achieving relaxation and nothing else. This mindfulness makes you closer to yourself. In addition, there is more room for mental development. The calm mind and steady breathing puts the mind and body in a peaceful place. This is where the mind can freely exercise.
The last reason on why you should do yoga is to be able to sleep well every night. When you do yoga, the body becomes more relaxed which helps in getting a restful sleep at night. Yes, you may be sleeping 8 hours a night but are you getting complete rest? Sleep is very important because this is the only time that body completely rests. With peacefulness in the mind and body, you can reach deeper sleep easier. The body can now maximize the full benefits of rest.
The beauty of yoga is that you can do it at home if you already know how to do certain poses. Doing yoga for 5-10 minutes before leaving for work or before sleeping at night will do you good. People who do yoga are more energetic, peaceful, healthy and less stressed. In addition, it is not hard to push yourself to do yoga unlike other exercises. Why do yoga? You have read the important reasons why and there is no doubt that yoga is effective in achieving overall wellness for the mind and body.
