Important Tool For The Preschool Learners

From the time of our evolution, we have come a long way to reach the present era of high class technology. In this era, everything is superfast and the approaches are also different. Earlier, the communication technology was not that effective. But now it can reach groups of people within just a few minutes. Different organizations are adopting new tools so that the productivity level could be increased.

The strongest impact that the modern era has is on the education system of the world. The methodologies used in the teaching learning process have completely been revolutionized. Earlier, the blackboard was the only means of explaining things to a mass of students; but now we can hardly see a blackboard in any classroom. It has been replaced by the smart boards, 3D images and projectors. When we were kids, only the picture books were available to us in the primary school to learn new things. But now, a number of tools are available in the primary schools that facilitate the process of learning. These tools include building blocks, flash cards, puzzles, crayons and other creative items.

The flash cards are considered to be one of the most important tools that help the kids to grab things very easily. Flash cards are of different kinds like digital cards and non-digital cards. Howard Gardner's multiple intelligence theory states that a classroom is made up of different kinds of learners. The learners can be categorized broadly into three different kinds- auditory learners, visual learners and kinesthetic learners. Howard’s research also proved that most of the students are visuals learners who learn new things by experiencing it visually. Flash cards can be bright and colorful and make a real impact on visual learners. The use of flash card improves the memory power of the kids.

There are multifaceted benefits that flash cards offer to the students. Some of the benefits are briefly discussed below-

• There is one kind of flash card that is called the alphabet soup. It helps the little ones to recognize the letters from the alphabet. In this, the teacher places different plastic letters in a bowl and the students are asked to pick one letter from the bowl and to recognize the letter from the alphabet.

• On an individual basis, these cards are used to teach math to the students. One activity involves placing several flash cards containing math problems in a line as if forming a series of stepping stones across a stream. Then the students pick up the first card, read the problem and try to solve it.

• Flash cards are also very effective in teaching sentence structure to the students. The teacher separates the flash cards into piles for sentence parts like nouns, verbs, adjectives and helpers. The student then selects a card from each pile and places them in the proper order to form a complete sentence.

• Pass the card is another flash card activity where teacher and students sit in a circle and then the teacher takes a card where the name of a particular object is written. The teacher speaks out the name of the object loudly and then passes the card to the student and the student also speaks out the name loudly. This activity continues unless all the students speak out the name once.

Flash cards are a really handy resource to have and can be useful at every stage of the class. They are a great way to present, practice recycle and reinforce vocabulary.
