Establishing your memory power

Prior to starting, as you make a start developing your memory it is a great idea to have a little fun and find out just how strong your memorisation powers are right now. Doing this short quizz will show you where your memory is strongest – eg., you remember things well or you remember the order of things better. Of course it will also show you where you memory needs to have a bit of practise.
Bear in mind – if you don’t use it – you lose it!!
Psychologists have come to the conclusion that we remember things by joining a certain part of them with extra things. For instance, on returning to an previous birthplace or your old schoolmay have experienced that catching sight ofa certain picture on the wall, or a certain piece of furniture, etc., made you 'suddenly summon up' things that you would otherwise, have totally forgotten. Your intellect was connecting all the ideas and memories that had been linked with the thing at which you were looking. This tenet applies, no matter how difficult the memory situation is. Even when recalling complicated geometric formulas or very complex ideas, there is a link in the personal history which triggers the recollection you want.

Study the record of 20 objects through once, and then at once cover it or close the page. On a fresh piece of paper list as many of them as you can dredge up, doing your best to to get them in the exact order. Score yourself in two ways:

* The number of items you remembered out of 20
* The number of items that you listed in the correct order (if you reversed certain items they are both wrong with regard to the second score! J Sorry!).
