The Center for Disease Control (CDC) released a study showing a high increase of antidepressant use over the past 15 years. It also reflected a 400 percent increase in usage among adults 18-44 years of age, according to the website Psychiatric Times. “The wrong people are on antidepressants and the right people aren’t taking them,” says Dr. Allen Frances, the author of the article. He adds, “just one-third of severely depressed people are taking them and more than two-thirds have no symptoms of depression.”rnAdvertising and persistent marketing are partly responsible for the escalating use of antidepressant, as put by Dr. Frances. In general, antidepressant drugs are supposed to reduce extreme sadness, hopelessness and lack of enthusiasm in life that are classic in people suffering from depression. These drugs also treat other conditions, such as obsessive compulsive disorder, premenstrual syndrome, chronic pain, and eating disorders. Depression is considered a disorder of the brain. Its causes vary from genetic, environmental, psychological and biochemical factors such as alcohol and drug intake. The World Health Organization (WHO) said that the depression criteria include migraines, fatigues, digestive problems, reduced sex drive and social activities withdrawal.rnPeople with depression may feel worthless, guilty, regretful, helpless, hopeless and may hate oneself. Insomnia and oversleeping are also the usual symptoms of depression. In extreme depression cases, unpleasant hallucinations, psychosis, memory loss, poor concentration and suicide are among the symptoms. The treatment for depression includes antidepressants intake and talk therapy. Both ways are taken by most patients. Antidepressant like Zoloft is supposed to treat depression. However, it can increase the risk of suicide as clinical trials and researches found out. Zoloft has been indicated to cause hazardous side effects and withdrawal symptoms. This is according to the clinical test procedures plus reports from Zoloft users. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already released different cautions regarding Zoloft intake. The CDC study also revealed that medical professionals have been convinced that they might have overlooked depression symptoms in their practices. Pharmaceutical companies are making huge profits at the expense of patients who might not need to take antidepressant medicines in the first place. Thus, Zoloft users should consult their doctor immediately if they have doubts on how it is working on them. Distressed users filing a Zoloft lawsuit appears to be gaining ground against its manufacturer Pfizer. Therefore, the public should always consult a doctor before taking any medicines to avoid any unfortunate repercussions. Victims of the drug intend to receive a financial compensation from the company. Affected parties should seek legal advice to find out more about Zoloft lawsuits.
