Indian Education System The Need Of The Hour

Education is that light which can illuminate anyone’s life with the brightness of knowledge. Ignorance is the biggest devil that has to be defeated with knowledge. The purpose of education is not just to make us read and write, but to provide us with the tools with which we can fight with any situation in life. Once Swami Vivekananda said, “We want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one’s own feet”. Thus, empowerment of one’s own self can be said to be the sole purpose of education. Development and furnishing of one’s skills come under the sphere of education. The well being of our future life depends completely upon the quality of education that we got in our schools, colleges or universities and at the same time also depends upon the skill development factor. The modern day schools are providing special classes to the students so that they can develop different skills. The appearance of international schools in different cities in India has given a different direction to the Indian education system. Inclusion of foreign language studies in the school curriculum has become an added point in making students more competent for their future life. This has opened up new scopes to the students to study abroad or work there effectively. In this technologically advanced era, it has become very important for students to expand their knowledge about the new technologies. A well acquaintance with the latest technological tools can make the pathway easier for the jobseekers. But many children have to leave their education in a mid way because of economical backwardness. Poverty becomes a barrier in the process of getting knowledge for many students. The National Skill Development Corporation set up by the Government of India has proved its worth well by providing professional courses to the students. But even then also, 500 million Indian youth are still in need of skill interventions in the next 10 years. Providing the courses or making them available even in the interior parts of the nation would not bring solution to the problem of unskilled youth in India. Money becomes a prime factor in this regard. Though the Government provides good amount of money in forms of loan to the students, there should be some schemes that will provide small scale loans in an easy way. Many Indian scholars and economists are expecting Budget 2012 to come up with some vocational education loans for the students. The private sector banks and institutions can help the Government in this regard. While we talk of sustainability and growth, one factor to impact the economy very strongly is proliferation and raising the standard of education in the country. With the emergence of increasingly robust connectivity infrastructure and cheaper computers, school systems around the world are developing the ability to provide learning opportunities to students "anytime, anywhere". This trend requires a rethinking of the traditional 40 minute lesson. In addition to hardware and Internet access, it requires the availability of virtual mentors or teachers, and opportunities for peer to peer and self-paced, deeper learning.
