Saina Nehwal is an Indian Badminton player born in district Hisar of the state Haryana, on 17 March 1990. Her father, Harvir Singh Nehwal, was an excellent badminton star at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, and her mother, Usha Rani, was a state-level player. Saina Nehwal dreamed of fulfilling her mom’s desire of being a National champion. Thus, the little kid with a big wish started the training at the age of 8. She did her schooling at Campus School CCS HAU in Hisar and St. Ann's College for Women in Hyderabad. rnThe little girl went to the Sports Academy of Andhra Pradesh to take professional badminton coaching. Harvir Singh Nehwal had to travel 50 km every day to send his child to the training centre. Then, Saina Nehwal attended Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad for further practice. She also learned Karate and achieved a brown belt. The talented kid is determined to be the famous player of India. With her perseverance and skill, Saina Nehwal began to win various interstate and district championships. The selectors noticed the efforts of the emerging star and gave her the opportunity to represent India at Czech Open Tournament in 2003. She won the Silver medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2004 at the age of 14. Later the youngster went on to win the Asian Satellite Badminton Tournament in 2005 and 2006. At the age of 16, she became the runner-up in the World Championship in 2006. rnThe budding player was noted among the well-versed badminton stars in India till the age of 18. The great athlete grabbed the opportunity of representing her motherland at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and reached the quarter-finals. In 2009, Saina Nehwal was the first Indian to win the Indonesian Open. Later, the teenager went on to achieve Indian Grand Prix and India Open titles in the year 2009. The Sportsperson in India was honoured with the Arjuna Award for outstanding skills. In 2010, the government of India appreciated the brilliant sportswoman with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Padma Shri Awards for her stunning work on the badminton court. Saina Nehwal successfully achieved gold and a bronze medal in the women’s singles and mixed team in the Commonwealth Games held in Delhi in October 2010 with her perseverance. The great athlete was ranked number 7 in the women's singles badminton world rankings. Saina Nehwal won the Swiss Open Title in 2011. The same year in December, she grabbed the Hong Kong Super Series after defeating Wang Shixian in the final. She became the first Indian singles player to be world number 5. The player won the bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012 and became the inspiration for many. In 2014, Saina Nehwal won the Indian Grand Prix Gold Title after defeating P.V. Sindhu. The hard-working gamer with the Indian Women’s Team achieved the bronze medal at the Asian Games. Moreover, the great player defeated Carolina Marin to win the Australian Super Series. After winning the silver medal, she became the first Indian player to win World Badminton Championship. The achiever received the first Syed Modi International title in 2015. In 2016, the sportswoman grabbed a Bronze medal at the Asian Badminton Championships. Subsequently, the skilful lady was honoured with the Padma Bhushan Award from the Government of India. Then in 2017, Saina Nehwal got a bronze medal at the World Badminton Championships. The athlete achieved gold medals in Women’s Singles and Mixed Team events in the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. The champion successfully won the bronze medal at the Jakarta Asian Games in September 2018. In 2019, the player attained her first BWF Super 500 title by defeating Carolina Marín. The famous sportsperson in India won the National Championships after beating P.V. Sindhu. The proud athlete became a member of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in January 2020. Saina Nehwal is a great Badminton player of India who made India proud with her outstanding mastery. The little girl from Hisar made a respectable position around the world and made the desire of her parents come true by becoming an international champion. The hard work and determination of Saina Nehwal have inspired many young players.
