Every industry should implement greener operations by adopting the growing technological innovations of our time. To achieve goals of sustainability, improving energy efficiency is not only an environmental concern but also an economic one, as lower energy consumption are directly proportional to bottom-line cost savings. Everyone should have the responsibility for taking care of the environment and be held accountable for it as well. Majority of the population are already aware of environmentally friendly processes such as recycling to minimise waste production, which helps lower our carbon footprint. Yet, many people still are not aware of the new and upcoming technologies which can use to help reduce carbon emissions. A great example of this is LED lighting; it single-handily provides many environmental advantages. The light-emitting diode (LED) is one of the most energy-efficient and fast-developing lighting technology in the modern-day world. High quality LED lights are more durable, lasts longer and offers equal or better light quality than other types of lighting on the market. LED is a very efficient lighting technology; it has the potential to change the future of lighting fundamentally. Keep on reading to find out more!

Save energy

LED lights are up to 90% more energy efficient than traditional lightings such as incandescent and fluorescent lights. Only 10% of the energy is wasted as heat while the other 95% is converted to light. Quite remarkable as halogen lights turn 90% energy to heat, making them a potential fire hazard near combustible materials. Since they require a lesser amount of power to operate, it subsequently reduces the demand from power plants and hence, decreases greenhouse gas emissions.

No Toxic Emissions

LED lights are up to 95% recyclable, leaving behind little carbon footprints. They can be taken to standard recycling centres and disposed of without having any special considerations for unsafe materials.

UV emissions

There are zero UV emissions from LED lightbulbs. Making it an ideal choice for usage in museums, to illuminate artefacts, historical documents without the risk of them being damaged.

Mercury

Most offices, facilities and households use HPS and CFL bulbs, the most common non-LED lights which consist of harmful chemical substances such as mercury and tungsten. Even tiny amounts for mercury are a concern for landfills and waste incinerators where the mercury from lamps may release to cause air and water pollution. Switching to industrial LED light avoids the cost and time implications for proper disposal through registered waste carriers, all the while protecting the environment from further hazardous waste.

Less number of lights

The lifespan of LED light is up to 6 times longer than other types of lights. This will result in fewer lights being used in the long run and, hence, a lower amount of resources will be required for manufacturing processes, packaging materials and transportation. LEDs have a good quality of light distribution and capability of focusing light in a single direction, unlike other types of lighting which waste energy due to emitting light in all directions. More often than not, illuminating areas where light is not needed. To reach the same level of brightness produced by incandescent and fluorescent lights, less LED lights can be used. Fewer lights will directly lead to reducing energy consumption and therefore benefiting the environment.

LEDs reduce unnecessary burn time

Conventional High-intensity Discharge (HID) lights generally require a warmup period before it can produce maximum illumination. For which most facilities keep them operating 24/7, although this prevents productivity and safety issues which may occur during the warmup phase, this leads to a tremendous amount of energy being wasted, particularly in areas which benefit from natural daylight. On the contrary, LEDs have instant turn-on capabilities, allowing them to switch on and off at will, providing instant maximum illumination. Dissimilar to other conventional lights, they’re also dimmable. These innovative features of LEDs enable them to be equipped with smart remote management controls with occupancy sensors, daylight harvesting sensors and dimmers that can considerably save energy consumption by eliminating additional burn time of lights in the facility. rnThere is another indirect benefit of installing or upgrading LED lights for your company. If your company is promoting a good cause, the cause of being environmentally conscious, it will bring in positive customer and public perception alongside all of the benefits mentioned in this article. All in all, LEDs are an incredibly useful technology that is rapidly becoming the first choice for households, commercial properties and lightning experts alike. Industrial LED lighting solutions are a much more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient alternative to other lights available on the market today. In addition to these sustainable and economic benefits, LEDs are also proven to deliver crisper and sharper lighting compared to traditional lighting. We are living in a time where it’s vital to adopt and adapt to greener technology; as it will lead us to a sustainable future.
