Infertility Myth: IVF, IUI, Assisted Fertiility and Surrogacy Are UnNatural Ways to Have a Baby

Is Assisted Fertility or Surrogacy Natural? During National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW) we have been invited to Bust a Fertility Myth in order to enhance understanding of the issues around infertility. Many of the women I work with really want to have their baby Naturally….without any outside assistance to support conception or implantation…and without requiring another woman’s body in which the baby can grow until he or she is ready to be born into this world. It is clear that there is a very strong desire to have your baby Naturally in a world in which we believe that Assisted Reproductive Therapy, IVF or IUI and surrogacy just don’t fall into that category. And what I have found is that a lot of the pain that comes up around considering Assisted Fertility, surrogacy or adoption stems from our ideas about what is Natural and what isn’t. We believe that Natural means….the way things have always been done….the way things occur without any medical intervention or assistance from others. A Deeper Understanding of Natural Family Creation But that interpretation is not really accurate when one has an understanding about how the Universe works and what is Natural from a broader perspective. We are living in a Universe in which everything is expanding and growing….everything is changing all of the time. Change and development is what is Natural and normal for everything in the universe. Indeed change is fundamental to life. This applies also to changes in the ways in which we can conceive, create new life, have a baby and expand our families. It is absolutely natural that these change.rnIt is part of healthy, normal evolution. You can have your baby. You can become a mother or father. And you can do it Naturally by embracing the idea that newness, change and evolution are the most Natural things in the world when it comes to baby making and creating new life! So the next time you think of IUI, IVF, Assisted Reproductive Therapy, surrogacy, adoption or any other way of creating family I invite you to remember and celebrate just how wonderfully Natural that is!
