The amalgamation of several cultures has influenced the language of Philippines. While Filipino is its national language, several other languages like English, Chinese, Spanish and many other regional languages also exists in the country. Located on the eastern shore of Manila Bay, the capital of Philippines Manila appears chaotic, polluted and concrete. The Pasig River divides Manila into the two- the Intramurous (the old city) and the Ermita that includes important government buildings as well as hotels. The interesting geography of the city makes it very convenient for the visitors to plan out their sightseeing trip. You can easily get flights from London to Manila booked and visit this captivating city. The first sight of Manila may not seem impressive but you will be delighted by rich-old culture which Filipinos carry on their sleeves as a legacy. Probably, this doesn’t mean that the city is old-fashioned as it is very much modern too. The skyscrapers, improved infrastructure and living standard give clear picture of its modernity making it comfortable for the tourists who visit it. Manila is full of interesting attractions including historic sites, natural wonders and also man-made marvels. However, you will find their language very fascinating. The dominance of other civilizations have great influence over the culture of the country and hence, on their language too. Though the national language of Philippines is Filipino but you will find English being used in the government and business. The other major languages spoken are Chinese and Spanish while many regional languages are spoken too. Earlier in 1937, the First National Assembly selected Tagalog as the national language and later in 1961 Tagalog was called Pilipino and later again in 1972 it was renamed as Filipino. In 1987, English was included in the constitution as the other official language. While many believe that Filipino is just another name for Tagalog many believe that Filipino is mixture of several other dialects and languages of the country including English and Spanish. The blend of different cultures is clearly visible in the language of Philippines. With more migrants coming to country and making it their permanent home has also influenced the language of the country. New words get added in the language automatically. As you visit Manila, you will find Tagalog spoken in the city but at the same time middle and upper echelons are bilingual and also multilingual. Therefore, Tagalog cannot be considered as the main language of the city as it is still evolving. The cultural diversity has not only influenced the language of the country but other aspects too. The cuisines, festivals, lifestyle everywhere you can see the beautiful blend of different cultures. To enjoy the amalgamation of several cultures and off-course interesting attractions book flights from London to Manila soon.
