The most important thing about fashion is to make it your own. Clothes maketh the man, but if they make the man uncomfortable they’re not doing him any favours. Here are a few tips on how to individualise your wardrobe for fashion and style.

Look at how you dress and identify, honestly, areas where you feel a bit plain or lacking in confidence. Whether that be workwear, evening wear, or casual wear.

Consider what would set you apart from your social group whilst remaining in harmony with the group’s overall aesthetic. It’s a good idea to step outside of your comfort zone slightly, but not so much as to draw undue attention. Think ‘new haircut’ subtleness.

Inject a bit of colour into your wardrobe; most men wear dark colours. Highlight your individuality with a signature colour that sets off your eyes or skin tone. Or, if you’re a member of a colourful bunch, try going monotone for a suave and sophisticated look.

Subtle changes will ensure your confidence goes from strength to strength. You have to be happy with it before anyone else will be. Work up to big change, if that’s what you’re after. Incorporate new items into your wardrobe slowly and steadily and then phase out the old. No one will even notice that you’ve completely changed your style.

Subtle changes to consider:

* Join the bright trouser trend.
* Add a blazer ahead of next year’s trend.
* Invest in a pair of high quality shoes in your chosen style.
* Add a new accessory – trendy hat, quirky bow tie, classy pocket square or a set of braces.
