Vitamin E can be found in great number of foods. It is a nutrient that acts like an antioxidant thus it helps the body with the protection of the cells from substances called free radicals. Sources of such compounds mainly are the cigarette smoke, ultraviolet light, air pollution and even the food we eat.

An important role of the vitamin is to help the immune system to handle with the viruses and bacteria. It widens the blood vessels and thus keeps the blood from curdling. The vitamin is used by the cells as a mean to interact with each other and for many other vital functions.
The recommended amount of vitami
E that has to be delivered to the organism depends on the age of every individual. The usual dose for babies under six months is 4 milligrams. For infants from 7 to twelve months it has to be 5 milligrams. Children in the age of 1 to 3, 4 to 8 and 9 to 13 should consume 6,7,11 milligrams of the vitamin respectively. Teens, adults and pregnant women have to take 15 milligrams daily. However breastfeeding women take the dosage of 19 milligrams per day.

Vitamin E can be found in some natural food or can be added to some. You can obtain the needed amount of the vitamin by consuming food such as sunflower, corn, nuts and seeds. Other sources are the green vegetables, fruit juices, cereals, margarines and others. However not all of them contain vitami
E so it is a good idea to check the label of the product.

If you consider using a supplement of vitami
E you should take under consideration the amount of vitamin you take. The usual amount of the vitamin contained in its supplements is from 100 to 1000 IU per tablet. Many people use bigger doses because of their hope to prevent some diseases and to keep themselves healthy. However the excessively taken vitami
E can lead to bleeding in the brain or reducing the ability of the blood cells to clot. Surprisingly vitami
E consists of 8 different compounds, as each one of them differs in potency or activity in the organism.

Vitamin E deficiency occurs rarely in most people. Usually it is connected to particular diseases in which the proper absorption of fats is disrupted. Diseases like these are cystic fibrosis, Crohn’s disease or genetic illnesses such as ataxia or abetalipoproteinemia. That is because vitami
E is a fat-soluble nutrient and the organism needs fats in order to turn it into form proper for the cells.
It is believed that vitami
E contributes to the treatment of some sicknesses such as cancer, heart disease and eye disorder. Mental function in older adults is also considered to be affected from the vitamin as well as lowering the risk of getting the Alzheimer’s disease.
