When our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did his migration to Madinah, he laid the foundation of one of the most famous mosque in the history of Islam which is known as Masjid-e-Nabwi. It is considered as the second largest mosque in the whole wide world and is respected highly by the people of Muslim community. The first largest mosque in the world is Masjid al-Haram. Therefore Masjid-e-Nabwi comes after it in second number. According to a well-known Hadith, when our beloved Prophet Muhammad migrated to Madinah, he was requested by all the followers to stay in their homedue to the immense love and respect they all had in their heart for the Prophet (PBUH). Each single person was hoping that Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) would stay in their house since it was the keen desire of all the Muslims, but Prophet (PBUH) replied everyone with politeness that is the command of Almighty that wherever the camel will stop he (PBUH) would have to stay there. When the camel came near to Masjid-e-Nabwi, it slowed down its speed and knelt down on the ground. Prophet replied that this place where the camel sat down would be his home, and he (PBUH) gave the money to the two orphan brothers who were the owner of the land, and then he bought it from them. After buying the land, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave the order that a masjid should be built on this land and the work should start quickly as soon as possible. A large area of the mosque was built by bricks and stones which were fixed with clay but in the central area, a spot or position for prayer was kept which was completely made of stones. The palm trees present in the yard were given the order to cut them down and the trunk of those trees were used as pillars which supported the roof. The roof itself was made by branches of palm trees and a large area of the yard was left open. To avoid the floor from getting muddy, small stones were placed on the floor. On the eastern side of the mosque, two huts were made for the two wives of Prophet (PBUH) who were Hazrat Sauda and Hazrat Ayesha (May Allah be peace with them).
