Interior painting is one of those stages of construction that many people believe is easy to do. In fact, there is nothing too complicated in it. Nevertheless, before you start painting your own home, make sure you get enough consultation to get all of your questions answered.

One of the most important things that you should learn when it comes to interior painting is choosing the right type of paint. This subject alone may cause lots of confusion, but not to worry. To get a sound consultation on the types of paint available, visit a store that specializes in paint.

SELECTING THE PRIMER

The primer, also known as sealer, lays out the foundation and determines the quality of the final result. It is important to understand that even if you purchase expensive paint, choosing a poor-quality primer will show through in the end, literally.

THE PAINT YOU USE

Never skimp on the quality of paint you use, unless you want to get cheap-looking result. Cheap paint easily comes off the wall when you try to clean it.

PAINTING WALLS AND CEILINGS

The majority of the time, you will want to use flat paint when painting your walls and ceilings. Although, when it comes to painting the kitchen, I would not resort to using flat paint. Instead, I would suggest using semi-gloss and it is easier to clean.

PAINTING KITCHENS AND BATHROOMS

As it was mentioned earlier, when it comes to painting kitchens, it is always recommended to use semi-gloss paint. The same is the case with bathrooms because oftentimes the mildew and moisture might cause quite a pain. Another good application of semi-gloss is for wood trimming. If you want to impress your guests, consider painting the walls of your home with flat paint and leave the trimming for semi-gloss. You are not going to regret it.

USING LATEX PAINT FOR INTERIOR PAINTING

There are two types of paint you can choose from, latex based and oil based. For interior painting, most professional contractors recommend using latex paint because it leaves less odor, it is easy to clean up (all you need it a sponge, soap and a bit of water) and it dries much faster than oil based paint.

When it comes to interior painting, the speed with which the paint dries means a lot. Using latex based paint allows you to apply the second layer on the same day, as soon as the first layer dries.

Many home buyers often resort to selecting oil-based paint believing that it will last much longer than the same latex based paint. When it comes to real professional of this trade, we believe that it really does not matter what type of paint you use. What really counts is the quality of paint.

TO USER ONE LAYER OF PAINT OR TWO

The answer is simple. It all depends on the surface you are painting. If you are working with a newly constructed building that has never been painted before, then having two coats of paint is a must. If you are just re-painting the walls, then you are good to go with just one coat of paint. This will not only save your cost, but will also give you that extra time to work on other parts of your home that require maintenance or repair.
