Today, the global trend is towards increasing domestic and international travel in the newly emerged global village. India is center stage with the spotlight on it. Delhi with its touts and traffic can be overwhelming for the visitor who just steps out of the Delhi airport or Railway station for the first time. Scratch beyond the gritty surface and you’ll swiftly discover that this truly multidimensional metropolis is sprinkled with glittering gems: captivating ancient monuments, magnificent museums, a zillion shops in classy up-markets and endless medieval bazaars loaded with the classiest international brand names to the most regional or local of handicrafts, artworks, textiles, fashion, cuisine, art galleries, performing arts both classical and modern, western and Indian are galore. For those who fancy themselves as international connoisseurs or just plain simply shopping freaks, the vibrant, classy yet most ancient and historic city of Delhi has it all – shop till you drop and its still just a drop in the ocean. Delhi encapsulates two worlds, the ‘old’ and the ‘new’, each presenting deliciously different experiences. New Delhi was built as the imperial capital of British India; Old Delhi as the capital of medieval Islamic India. Visitors can easily dip into both, spending half their time immersing themselves in history at Red Fort, Jama Masjid and bazaars of Old Delhi, and the other half over frothy cappuccinos or frosty cocktails at one of New Delhi’s swanky cafés and bars. Delhi’s recent global cuisine revolution means that hungry travelers can now feast on everything from meaty Mughlai curries and yummy South Indian dishes to crispy wood-fired pizzas and squishy sashimi, Thai, Mexican, Greek, Japanese, you name it Delhi has it.rnDelhi is India’s central hub for domestic travel, with extensive bus, rail and air connections. And with hotels dotting the entire stretch, just imagining the daily flow of human traffic on and off its tracks and stations is mind-boggling. Now for a most useful tip for visitors : book a hotel in Delhi in advance , the internet is an excellent guide right next to you at home.
