Today the strongest pillar of the communication world is the International SIM. You may ask how so? Well the world is getting smaller and smaller and the evidence to this is the flights connecting to each and every nook and corner of the globe. And not quite surprisingly all these flights go full almost each time. With the distance between countries becoming smaller and smaller, traveling for different purposes has increased manifolds. Whether it for study purpose, business or leisure purpose people are traveling away from their home and loved ones all the time. Hence along with their other travel necessities, the mobile phones too get packed, without which it would be nearly impossible for them to communication with their friends, colleagues and even loved ones.

If the travel is domestic the mobile phones may not be a big trouble but if the travel is international then keeping in touch becomes a huge issue. There are various reasons including but not limited to cost factors, mobile and SIM compatibility, government rules and regulations and what not. This is where the International SIM comes to the rescue.

What is an international SIM?

International SIM cards allow you to make calls from overseas, generally from a range of 60 to 175 destinations depending on the tie-ups the service provider has with. Apart from this they also provide for a "roam free service" meaning when you are traveling out of your home country your incoming calls will not be charged when you are in select countries. And even the out going calls that you make from your SIM will be six times cheaper than using your regular service provider's SIM card.

The other benefit with the international SIM is most of them do not carry a monthly billing plan. This would mean you pay as you use, thus no hidden charges or surprise bills when you return to your home country.

International SIM comes in different packs - Starter Pack, Travel SIM, Globetrotter Pack, World Phone etc. Each of these has their own rules and regulations and is tailored to suit specific needs of the frequent traveler.

Many service providers also offer prepaid data service with their international SIM card. This is especially useful to connect wireless devices and access GPRS and other useful services.

Before you buy an international SIM?

You may want to check on certain perimeters before you finalize on your service provider. While many boast of providing less than believable charges, you may actually end up paying unnecessarily for services you never used.

First of all check on what would be the hidden costs like transmission charges, incoming call costs etc. See if there are any daily service fees, if the call charges are less than believable the provider may be looting you through daily service charges. Also check if there are any contracts to be entered into for the term of usage. Be clear on the monthly and annual service charges that may end up on your bill.

Some service providers allow for the unused call credit to be carried forward thus the loaded amount never expires. You may want to confirm this with you provider beforehand though since not all international SIM card service providers offer this.

The Quiet Engine Behind Every Connection Most people think of telecom services as towers, signals, and mobile data moving invisibly through the air. Yet behind every call that connects and every message that reaches its destination, there is another system quietly working in the background. That system is the call center.
