Internet Marketing expert Josh Hoopes shares that after introducing Open Graph and Timeline, which details the user's life story in chronological order on their profile pages, Facebook has also launched Facebook Actions which adds a call-to-action on various posts instead of just clicking "like" most of the time.

Because social networking sites are now regarded as credible authority when it comes to determining the relevance of certain topics, they have been incorporated into the page ranking algorithm of search engines, thus this new feature will surely have a spillover effect into SEO of websites one way or another.

Because Facebook Actions allows users to mention specific products, services, locations, etc., this has significant potential effects in terms of Search Engine Optimization for products and their websites due to the added significance that the search engines have placed upon the social media sites and to their capability to spread actions and opinions across the users' respective extended networks.

When an FB user posts a status on their wall, this will instantly invite friends to comment or share related feedbacks which can mention names of shops, brands, or locations. Some of the people on the network to whom the post was sent out to may even decide to pay the shop mentioned in the post a visit, or explore the website of the brand also mentioned in the post.

This places a spotlight on the shop or the brand being mentioned in the post, which could either be a blessing or a curse to them as some of them may just be able to use this opportunity as a launch pad for bigger things, while some of them may act like a shrinking violet under the harsh and sudden wave of attention which they may not be able to substantiate. Ironically, the same opportunity which could push their business to even bigger things by being merely mentioned in a post in a social media site, could also be the same platform which can take them down.

Josh Hoopes mentions the following items as some of the potential effects on Search Engine Optimization of Facebook Actions:

ï§ A bevy of interaction that's being made out of the product is equivalent to a tremendous boost in popularity for the said product, especially if the original post or some of the succeeding feedbacks mention the product's website. Search engines have already realized the significance being placed on opinions that emanate from these social media sites that they had to recognize them and include them in the calculation for their ranking system.

ï§ Boost in traffic by creating a direct route to your website. Usually, this link can be found in the original post. The website owners can then seize the opportunity from these additional readers which are sent their way by designing their landing pages carefully to make the best interactions with them and present corresponding call-to-action features as much as possible.

According to SEO expert Josh Hoopes, other SEO initiatives may also be introduced at this point such as utilizing the relevant keyword, or revising the meta descriptions and meta tags in order to maximize the visit.
