What’s the best way to get serious with your golf game? The answer: investing in golf equipment. However, the many options available make it a daunting task. If you’re thinking about buying used equipment, here are a couple of factors to take into consideration.
Pros
Price – The most obvious advantage to buying used equipment is the price – new golf equipment can put a serious dent to your bank account. Nine times out of ten, used equipment makes for a much more affordable investment.
Mix and Match – Golfers buying used clubs get the opportunity to mix and match their clubs to their heart’s desire. Doing so offers great savings compared to buying a new set and it’s a great way for those who are only one or two clubs short of a full set to complete their collection.
Convenience – You’re not limited to a sporting goods store or golf product website. Used golf equipment can be easily purchased from eBay, Craigslist, garage sales, the local newspaper, even flea markets – they are generally cheaper than those found in the sporting goods stores.
Cons
Lack of Quality – The savings are huge when getting used equipment, but there’s often a drop in quality as well. Not every golfer takes the best care of their clubs and golf equipment, so you’ll have to do a thorough quality check before purchasing.
Not a Good Fit –Golf clubs have to “feel” right in your hands. Used clubs can sometimes be so worn down that they can negatively affect your game. Technology used to design clubs also change over time – outdated clubs won’t do much to improve your game.
No Guarantees – Just like buying clothes off the rack, buying used golf equipment almost never comes with a return policy, even if the item is faulty. So make sure you’re 100% happy with what you’re getting because you won’t be able to get a refund.
Only by comparing the pros and cons of buying used golf equipment can a golfer make an informed decision as to whether that’s the right choice for them.
