You've seen the advertisements. You probably know at least one person who tried it, but is Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), also known as an Internet phone or digital phone, you? Let's face it. Your traditional phone service works pretty well, so why switch? The answer is savings.
Let's start from the basic monthly plan. The average monthly residential Internet phone plan is approximately $ 25/month. Business plans are roughly double the residential rate. Usually this price includes loads of free features like voice mail, call waiting, call Three, caller ID and call forwarding. Traditional phone service ranges from about $ 15/month $ 60/month depending upon add-ons, long distance, taxes and surcharges. Internet phone service could be for you if you are the higher end of the scale. In addition, many cable companies offer Internet phone service as a bundled package of Internet, television and home phone services in one account. This combination may prove to be very cost effective.
International calls are extremely cheap with Internet phone. Prices can start from around $ .02/min., Depending on the destination. In addition, some calls may even be free. For example, if you subscribe to XYZ Internet phone service, and you're abroad, call a friend, who also subscribes to XYZ, the call should be free. You can even take your Internet phone service with you when traveling. If you have wi-fi Internet phone, you have a service where there is Wi-Fi hotspot around the world. Or, if you take your equipment with you (ie telephone adapter, router, IP phone), you will be able to use their services wherever a broadband Internet connection. So often with overseas relatives and friends, travelers or people would be very useful for Internet phone service.
Business owners will benefit most from the switch to Internet phone service. High long distance volume, systems integration, phone number, mobility, and local market presence are the main reasons why. First, businesses have inherently high call volumes, especially domestic and international long distance calls. This should reduce these costs by reducing the monthly overhead. Second, it is highly flexible and meshes well with other business applications. Third, businesses spend thousands of dollars annually on advertising dollars are wasted, and if the phone number must be replaced. This allows businesses to keep the same number, regardless of location. Closely related is the problem of the local market. With VoIP, businesses can have a local phone number but be located in another city, state or country. Your price is only a local phone call. Despite the many advantages to businesses, there is one major conce
- security. Since voice conversations travel online VoIP systems are susceptible to the same risks as your computer (ie hackers, viruses, etc.). Small to medium-sized enterprises with less than larger companies target. However, all companies that use VoIP-to-date security software and contingency plans to minimize risk.
Despite the many advantages of VoIP, there are some issues to consider. These issues include: voice quality, power outages, emergency services, alarm systems, faxing and digital video recorder (DVR) devices.
