So if you are already taking a drug for high blood pressure, cholesterol, or any number of problems, you could find that your choices are really rather limited as to what prescrition medications for depression that you can take. Why Prescription Medications Are Not Always the Best Choice For some people, there are many reasons why naturally treating depression is a preferred method over standard prescription medication therapy. One of those reasons is that prescriptions are not cheap, even for those drugs that are sold as generic substitutes. If you don't have a health insurance policy or a prescription policy, you may not be able to take medications on a long-term basis. Another reason why many people choose not to take medications for their depression is because they interact with other medications. This can cause serious problems and you may be forced to choose between treating one condition or the other. In addition, there are many side effects that go along with these medications, so much so that a good number of people elect to stop taking their medications rather than deal with the side effects. If you have decided not to use prescription medications to treat your depression or if you are looking for a way to naturally supplement the medications that you are already taking, then you will be glad to hear that there are many options. Alternative methods of treatment such as aromatherapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, and yoga have all been used for centuries as a way to help people with mental health issues. What About Herbal Supplements? There are also many herbal supplements such as St. John's Wort and Kava Kava that have been proven to bring about results in many people. These can be used on their own or in conjunction with other forms of natural healing methods.
