Is Your Ego Preventing You From Realizing Your Dreams of a Healthy and Thin Body?

2013 is the year to finally transform your body. You have tried diet after diet; after all there is always the next best thing. How many of us have changed to the next diet mid-current diet? Why isn’t this working for you? Why are you never moving forward in achieving your weight loss goals? You ask, “What is wrong with me?” Then you berate yourself for being a loser (everywhere in your life, but in weight loss); for not having the willpower to follow through with your goals; or for being a failure.
What is actually happening is that your ego feels threatened. This in turn activates that inner voice in your head. Then the continual loop starts playing in your head and you review everything you have experienced in your past. It brings up your fears, anxieties, worries, and negative self-talk. Next, you start comparing yourself to family members, friends, coworkers and media darlings. Your self esteem, never too strong to begin with, drops even lower. Whenever you think you are competing with someone else you will always feel unhappy and dissatisfied with where you are. You look at how far you still have to go to reach your goal and think, “what’s the use?” Your ego has done its job because this is when you go back to being comfortable and reach for the pie, cake or chips.
Here’s the good news; life is not a competition. What if I told you that you never have to compare yourself to others ever again? In fact comparing yourself to others is actually a tool your ego uses to keep you from moving forward. It is HOW you measure your success that determines your happiness. If you look at where you are and how far you have to go, you are opening yourself up to disappointment and unhappiness. The KEY is to look back at where you started and compare it to where you are now. Do you see how valuable this insight is to your self esteem and motivation? Go back and read this again.
You will never become happy and fulfilled from a state of negativity. By looking back and celebrating each small success you can be happy and satisfied right now. Every step forward, even a small one is taking you toward what you desire. This in turn allows the next steps to become easier because you are coming from a positive place.
Activity: Fine a pretty box. Every time you feel you have succeeded at something write it down on a piece of paper and put it in your box. Next year on New Year’s Eve take out the papers and review everything you have accomplished. You are a winner, so celebrate your successful year!
