Did you know that the New Year's resolution to lose weight is the one that is the hardest to keep for some people? That is because many diets do not work in the long run.

Many diets do not work because they are based on deprivation. When your body is deprived of what it needs, then it begins to take nutrients that are stored in the body. This leads to a decreased metabolism which causes weight gain when you begin to eat a normal amount of food again. Another effect of depriving your body is the continued cravings for the foods that you love. Many diets say that you cannot eat pizza or ice cream or any of the other foods that you love. At some point, you are going to want these foods, and the diet will ultimately fail at that point.

So how can you keep your New Year's resolution to lose weight if diets do not work?

It works by teaching you to follow what your body says that it needs. This is because your body knows what it needs to function properly. When you begin to listen to your body, you will be able to eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full.

As you learn to have a healthy relationship with food, you will also learn to love yourself. You will have the ability to focus on past event that have caused you to overeat.
