Choosing the best gift for someone you love, you care about can be very emotive, sometimes there is a feeling of excitement and impatience to give a gift to our loved one and see their reaction while other times it can be quite stressful because we aren’t sure about what to choose and what not. Jewellery can make a really wonderful gift and therefore it is necessary to choose a gift wisely. One of the most popular and widely known stone is a pearl. You might have seen a number of jewellery, cloths and other accessories embedded with peals in beautiful colour range. This stone has many meanings associated with it. Many countries, religions and time periods have associated them with the moon, wealth, wisdom, purity and what not? In early times pearl was considered as a jewellery choice for the elderly women but now it is loved by younger women as well. A lot of designers are creating light contemporary pieces using pearls not only in white but in many colour ranges. rnWhen it comes to gifting jewellery to someone, there are many choices that the buyer has to choose from. Pearl is beautiful and versatile and its lustre is luminous far better than many sparkling gems. Any metal when combined with varied stones looks better but when it is embedded with a single pearl, it looks graceful. Pair up pearl jewellery with any of your outfit to add a touch of elegance. It looks smart and helps you look smarter. It involves deep thinking and knowledge about the money you are about to invest while buying jewellery as a gift. Here we have compiled few things that you should keep a check on before making final payment for the items you’ve purchased. Let’s have a look: • Look for hallmarks - It is one of the finest things that you can do while acquiring a new piece of jewellery. There are two indications in a hallmark, out of which one tells the metal content of a piece whereas the other tells either the country, designer or manufacturer. These markings are located somewhere on the necklace, inside of a ring or a bracelet. The jewellery does not lose its hallmark even after it is many years old. Different jewellery has different hallmarks. The common hallmarks include 18K, 14K, 10K etc. for gold jewellery, 950, PLATINUM, PLAT etc. for platinum jewellery and 925, Silver, Sterling etc. for silver jewellery. There are many other hallmarks that are unique as well, but the fact is that the hallmark on your jewellery is in itself a good sign. There are even some hallmarks that need to be appraised for authenticity tests. • Check the weight - This is another important aspect to be considered while identifying if the jewellery is priced according to its weight or not. Whether you are buying a chain or bangles, beware of the fake counterparts like brass and pewter that resembles gold and silver. Many times the buyer sells light weighted jewellery a higher price. The jewellery made up of solid metal is smooth, heavy and consistent throughout. Beware of the duplicate jewellery and make final payment only after you are satisfied with its monetary value and weight. When the jewellery wears down, it does not changes its colour, for instance, yellow gold will remain yellow even after many years. The value you are paying can be determined with the weight. The longer and heavier jewellery are always the more valuable. • Inspect the prongs - Fine jewellery is finely crafted with each stone set in an intricate bezel and prong set with pearl being one of the only exceptions. Don’t pay more for the jewellery wherein the stones are just glued into a place. Thus, it is always the best tactic to consider a lot of authentication ways to ensure that the jewellery you are about to purchase is worth its value and is of high quality. The jewellery that consists of pearl with diamonds is the one where the pearl is glued in the centre and the diamonds are set with prong or bezel setting. Look fo the hallmark and the weight of the jewellery before making the final payment to the seller.
