Coming from diverse groups, the supermarket workers are usually employed in one of more areas of the grocery stores. They perform divergent tasks from checkout lane to the delivery counters as well as back to the stock rooms. Over four million people are working as employees in the food stores according to the latest survey reports of the Food Marketing Institute and the job offers quite good career prospects for career aspirants. Job Locations Usually the supermarkets are located in towns and cities. They are not new creations. In fact grocery markets existed in United States since the beginning of the nineteenth century. However, initially the stores die not have wide varieties of products as found in the supermarkets today. These days the supermarkets have everything that a customer might require. Job Prospects Unlike most other industries job prospects are always on the growth in the groceries and supermarket industries.rnOne of the main reasons for such growth is that technology has not eliminated job prospects in the supermarkets as they have done with some other industries. rnSince the supermarkets have all the items that one could require, the job prospects are quite bright there. rnIt is a new trend and the scope is expanding over time. Nature of Job Divergent types of jobs are available for the supermarket workers.rnOne of the most common jobs is that of cashier that are the front line of the stores for carrying out customer’s services, interacting with customers and ensuring the accuracy of the account. rnSupermarket clerks help bagging of the articles and help the transportation of bags to the vehicles of the customers. They also collect carts from the parking lot. rnStock personnel play important role behind the scene in the supermarkets. Specialization Requirements While academic qualification may not have much relevance for the supermarket worker’s jobs, having some sort of qualification and training in salesmanship and customer care would come up handy for finding a job there. Also for the job of the cashier, a candidate may require accounts training background. Since the supermarkets are adding numerous articles to their lots, it may be essential in some cases to have specialization education and training, especially in case of the electronic goods and ornaments etc. With 3400 supermarkets in the country, job opportunities are huge and the earnings are also substantially good at around $400 per week on average.
