Journey Electrician—Skills Needed

A journeyman commercial electrician in Wall is a person who has undergone the appropriate education and training that is necessary to enter this field of work.  Some of the jobs that he will do can include:

In order to become a journey electrician should start in high school by assessing your skills and talents and making sure that you take as many science and math classes as you can.  You also need to have adequate reading skills. Although you do not always need a high school diploma it is a good idea to pursue one.  After you graduate from high school you need to check to see if you qualify to enter into an apprenticeship program with different electrical companies or an electrician’s local union.  Going through an apprenticeship program you will be taught by licensed, skilled electrician for several years before you can work on your own and be called a journey electrician. When working as a journey electrician in Jackson you need to have the physical strength and stamina to be on your feet most of the day doing physical labor.  You will have to do heavy lifting, reaching, bending, and climbing.  It is very important to be physical fit as it will help you to avoid injuries on the job.  In addition to the math and science classes you should also take computer classes.  The reason is that today electricians use a variety of computer programs and tools in their daily job.  Although you will learn what you need to become a journey electrician during your apprenticeship it is still a good idea to have some skills in the computer field when you apply for the apprenticeship. You should also consider getting a commercial driver’s license because many times as an electrician you will be driving a company truck to different job sites, picking up materials, and more.  Generally these are a will repair vehicle or a large truck.  Some companies do not require this license but help boost your credentials.
