Jumping on the Yearbook Club

Many have said it, but that's only because it is such a true to story fact: high school just isn't easy. There are too many pressures to really count when you think about it. From going to school dances and having to ask out a date, to simply getting some tutoring help in the classroom, any number of experiences can result in one having to become embarrassed by another's reaction. As well, high school aged students do not have the greatest level of maturity to make any of the process any easier. This means that high school just seems like an endless run of days for all too many and it can be difficult to shed that stigma and really make the most of the time one is given. In order to really break out of your shell, a great way to get to know the people around you is to join an extracurricular club, such as the debate team, or a sports program such as cross country. In these sorts of groups, you will immediately become a part of a team that will do well to building relationships, as everyone will have to work together in order to achieve a likened goal. One extracurricular that a lot of people get really interested in whether they enjoy high school or not is the Yearbook club, because there are a lot of interesting roles to explore in creating the overall document. Many do not realize the way a Yearbook is comprised. It is not just getting together a whole bunch of pictures and calling it a day. There are many different responsibilities that one can become involved with. For example, a yearbook committee has a group of students who work exclusively on the layout of the book. This means not just the way the picture and text is displayed on a single page, but on all pages. The editors are responsible for figuring out that everyone's name is spelled correctly, or displayed the way they please. They make sure there are no glaring grammatical issues and that the blurbs are properly typed up. Then, there is also the publishing crew who must meet with local printers to find the best prices around and must obtain advertisers with which to pay the publishing costs. In the end, the team must reconvene the following year to distribute the yearbooks in a timely way. Granted, while the finished product may come to represent all the hard work you did in pouring your time and energy into an extracurricular club, what is most important is how you ended up working with your peers. One day, one will find themselves in an office setting where they will again have to work as a team alongside a group of their peers and it is important to not just suffer through it, but to discover a reason to enjoy it as well. Building friendships along the way is the most positive reaction, and so if one is able, they should seek to join a yearbook club or another group sooner than later and to get themselves into the mix.
