Kakinada is a place located in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is nearly 465 km east towards the Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. This city is also the headquarters of the East Godavari district. It is situated at a distance of 210 km from Vijayawada, 155 km from Visakhapatnam and about 60 km from Rajahmundry. Besides having a deep sea port, Kakinada is also a centre for deep sea expedition and other activities.
Kakinada is often referred to as the "Fertiliser City" because there are numerous fertiliser plants in this place. It is also known as the "Pensioner's Paradise" and "Second Madras" because the city is very well planned, and at the same time very peaceful. It is now ranked as the fifth largest city in Andhra Pradesh and the fourth largest city in Coastal Andhra because of its dense population.
Kakinada was under the rule of the Nandi Kings, followed by the British. The city developed considerably after the European colonists came into the region. The Dutch were one of the first settlers in the region preceded by the British. Several signs of colonial times are seen around the city even today.
Kakinada has a rich culture which is echoic in the many temples, mosques and churches situated in and around the city, along with the many festivals celebrated here. Some of the most popular festivals celebrated in this region include Ganesh Chaturthi, Pongal, Ugadi, Diwali, Dashera, Christmas and Ramzan.
Some of the main attractions near the city include Draksharamam, the Coringa Sanctuary and Adurru. Draksharamam is the place where the Draksharama Bheemeshwara Swamy and Pancharama temple is located. It was built during the 9th century by the East Chalukyan king. This temple also includes Sri Manikyamba, which is one of the Shakti Peetha.
Adurru is also known as the Dubaraju Gudi and is located in Razole taluka which is at a distance of 50 km from Rajahmundry tour package . Remains of chaityas, Buddhist stupas and viharas were found by archaeologists while unearthing this place. Among all, the Mahastupa is the most famous one, which is in the shape of a huge wheel with a 17 feet diameter and is built on a high platform. Mahastupa is a popular architectural structure in Adurru. Draksharamam is a religious place devoted to Lord Shiva and is regarded as an important Saiva Aramas holiday package . The Karapa, Penuguduru and Samalkota are other spectacular towns located nearby Kakinada.
Numerous sites of religious importance like temples, mosques and churches are present in the city. The Coringa Sanctuary is the major attraction and is visited for the famous salt-water crocodiles. The sanctuary is home to 35 types of mangrove plants trip packages .
Kakinada is well connected with the rest of the State as well as other parts of the India. The nearest airport is situated at Rajhamundry which is located around 65 km from the city. The railway station is situated in the city and it is served well by many trains that pass through the station. There are regular bus services from neighboring parts of the state.
