The Country Club Plaza: This is the first outdoor shopping mall in the world. It consists of 15 block districts and more than 150 shops and plenty of restaurants. The Plaza’s many restaurants cater to a wide range of audience with authentic Italians jaunts, courtyard café’s, and restaurants that serve authentic Kansas City steaks. In fact, it is also named in the list of ’60 of the World’s Great Places’. This is a place where major Kansas City events take place. The art work in the Plaza is believed to be more than $1 million. Every year, thousands of tourists come here to witness the start of the holiday shopping season when 250,000 jewel colored bulbs are used to decorate the Plaza. This spectacle begins on Thanksgiving eve and continues until mid-January. The place also draws crowd during the annual Plaza Art Fair- the best art fair in the whole of Midwest!
Farmers’ Markets: For those who are in a mood to shop for fresh produce, Kansas City has plenty of small farms and orchards that are certified organic. Every weekend farmers’ drive up to these markets to sell fresh produce that includes sweet corn, snap beans, peaches, and tomatoes. Brookside Market, City Market, Marche Du Jour, and KC Organics are some of the popular markets. If fresh fruits and vegetables don’t interest you, buy some of the homemade jellies, jams, salsas, and even hand-milled soap. None of these produce look picture perfect, but their imperfection is proof of the fact that they are pesticide and chemical free.
The City Market: If entertainment, shopping, and dining are on your itinerary, visit The City Market. This place has plenty of shops, restaurants, cafés and bars where you can shop for fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, seafood, meat, and other groceries. The market was conceptualized more than 150 years ago, and is a favorite among locals and tourists alike.
