As parents, we are always concerned about the health and wellbeing of our children. We can always protect them when they are around us, but what about when they are away from us? With all the viruses that are present today such as the Swine Flu, it has become a real worry for parents to send their children off to school. It would be nice if we could keep them at home with us forever, but that is not possible, so all we can do is our best to find ways to keep them safe and healthy so they are able to be happy and enjoy their lives. Here are a few tips to help you accomplish this.

The first thing that you need to do is to ensure that your child is eating a healthy diet. Make sure that they eat well. This does not mean that you should feed them everything and anything. They need to have a well balanced diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, carbohydrates and proteins. This will help your child from becoming overweight.

Make sure that your children are engaging in some sort of physical exercise or activity. Watching tv and most video games are not things that they should be engulfing their time in as they offer no physical benefits. Find an activity or sport that they enjoy and that way, it will be fun for them and at the same time, it will benefit their bodies.

Your child needs to drink plenty of water. Make sure that wherever they go, you send a water bottle with them no matter what the weather is like. It is very important that a child keeps their body well hydrated at all times especially when the sun is extremely hot. This will ensure that they are refreshed and have plenty of energy throughout the day. Make sure that you protect their skin from the harmful sun rays by applying sunscreen with a moderate SPF count.

Another thing that you need to do is to teach your children the importance of proper hygiene. Make sure that they wash their hands after they play, sneeze, come home, go to the bathroom and before they have their meals to name a few. Stress the importance of using toilet covers and toilet paper and not drinking from water fountains. Hopefully, this will prevent them from picking up germs and viruses.

One of the most important thing is to make sure that your child gets the proper amount of sleep. They should get at least 8 hours of good sleep and this will ensure that they have the needed energy to function properly the next day. It will also keep their immune system healthy. Be careful that your child does not get stressed out because this will affect their sleep in a negative way including their overall health.

By following these tips, you should be able to help your child from getting sick all the time while they are at school so they can be healthy and enjoy everything that school has to offer.
