The passage of time brings with it many changes; changes that would require us to adapt in order to survive. Changes are inevitable and keeping up with the trend is a necessity. The same principle applies in the world of business.

In business, there are basically two phases: putting a business up and keeping it going. To put up a business, you need to have a good idea as to what product or service you will be offering, the management skills, and of course, the money to start your business with. This is actually the easier phase of the two. As for the second part, in order to keep the business up, running, and generating profits, you will need to have even better management skills, logic and creativity. You will need to establish patrons and make consumers trust your products. To be able to achieve that, you will have to market your products and services. And to be able to promote your products and services with the aim of achieving the utmost possible effect, it is necessary that you keep up with the trends of the changing times. That is, advertising your products and services according to the medium to which your target clients popularly use.

When newspapers and other prints started coming out, businessmen had taken advantage of it by promoting their products and services on it. When radio became popular, businessmen started to take advantage on it as well; sponsoring shows and paying for air time in exchange of endorsing their products. Much can be said when television came about. Nowadays, another communication medium is becoming popular. So much so that it has even earned its own name. I am referring to the popular usage of the internet.

The internet is a global connection of networks. Suffice to say, it has a very wide scope to which poses a very good opportunity for businesses to expand in a global scale. This is precisely the reason why virtually every company and business establishments are working very hard to gain an online presence.

There is actually a term for this method. It is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO. Search Engine Optimization is defined as the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines’ natural or unpaid search results. In general, the higher the rank on the search results page and the more frequent a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users. Following the logic? More people who have access to the site and more people knowing about product or service offered increases the number of potential customers.
