Don’t sit on the fence (or the bench)

Greatness simply will not be a reality for you unless you get off the fence and the bench.

Fence-sitters say, "Well, I'd like to do that, but what if I do and this happens?" or "Well, I believe this, except when this happens, in which case, I believe this." And from their place high atop the fence, these folks will tell others how it ‘should' be done, how the game ‘should' be played, how you may have missed this, or that opportunity. They put themselves on a pedestal; take all the credit and none of the blame; and complain to anyone who will stop and listen to them.

Don't be a fence-sitter!

The simple fact of the matter is that we all do a little bit of fence-sitting, every now and again. I'm not perfect, and I don't claim to be. I sit on the fence sometimes myself, and when I do catch myself doing it, I simply ask, "How can I get in the game?" And then I take action.

Where in your life are you sitting on the fence, or the bench? How can you make a choice, get off the fence and get back in the game? The only way you're going to find satisfaction in your life is by playing at 100% as often as you can.

Will you get tired from time-to-time? Of course. Will you stumble and fall, and occasionally need a helping hand to get back up on your feet? Most definitely. We all do. But the more you can actively participate in your life, the more the habit of taking action becomes rooted in your mind, body and spirit, the more you will get accomplished, and the more greatness you will experience on a day-to-day basis.

Does getting off the fence and getting in the game mean that you won't change your mind later? Absolutely not.

Life is about navigation. Pick a course, find your spot on the horizon and start moving towards it. Then, correct as you go along. No one expects you to be perfect straight out of the gate, to have your course absolutely locked in. But you have to start.

It's been said that "a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step," and I'm the first to acknowledge that sometimes that first step is the hardest step to make. But if you can muster the courage to make it - to get down off your fence and get in the game - you will find that momentum automatically and immediately starts to swing in your favour. And momentum is where the fun really happens.

Pick a side and get in the game!

What one thing can you do to get back in the game today? Answer that one question, then make it your number one priority today to do it. If it's the wrong thing, someone will quickly tell you and you'll be able to correct your course, if necessary. But you have to get started today. If you don't, you'll be one day older when you finally do.
