Keratosis pilaris is a harmless skin condition that appears in the form of small, hard bumps that make the skin look like a sandpaper. Caused by the build up of keratin, a protein that protects the skin from various infections and other harmful things form a plug that blocks the opening of a hair follicle. What actually triggers it is still unknown. Therefore, medically there is no cure for it yet, only methods to make this skin problem less severe. Here are a few simple things you can do to keep your skin comfortable. 1. Heavily Moisturize Your Skin People with dry skin and certain conditions, including eczema, are more likely prone to have keratosis pilaris. In the winter months, it usually gets worse when there is less moisture in the air. Therefore, be extra careful and make the most of a super rich body cream or lotion. Apply it on the rough spots right after the bath, when the skin is still damp. This will not just only seal the moisture in, but it will also help it to penetrate deeper and therefore, last longer. Make sure to use your skin care products by revitol before you put on the moisturizer. 2. Exfoliate With Chemical Exfoliants It is not just only the easiest, but also the simplest way to reduce the bumps. Therefore, we insist topical exfoliants to remove the dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, including the extra pile over the follicles. However, it is only effective if it is done regularly. It can be done mechanically or with chemical peeling of the skin. Though, remember that mechanical exfoliation does not involve any active element, it may irritate a sensitive skin. Instead, opt for creams that contain lactic acid, alpha-hydroxy acid, or urea. 3. Make The Most Of The Topical Retinoids Retinoids are a popular derivative of vitamin A that promote cell turnover. This in return prevents the hair follicles from getting plugged. To make the most of this option find the products that contain tretinoin and tazarotene. Else, apply the contents of vitamin A capsules for at least 15 minutes before washing off. After applying the contents of the capsule avoid going out in the sun as they make the skin highly photosensitive. Fair warning to the women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are nursing should avoid topical retinoids. 4. Healthy Food, Happy You! Keratosis pilaris is a skin condition aggravated by skin dryness. Therefore, keeping it hydrated only from the outside with Revitol skin care products alone will not be enough. So, do keep the skin hydrated from the inside with plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits, and water too. Consume food that is rich in omega 3 fatty acids such as oily fish and nuts. Cut down the highly processed junk food for even better results. 5. Laser Treatment For Severe Problem For the most severe cases of keratosis pilaris, a laser treatment can be used. It is a procedure where a laser is aimed onto the skin to treat the severe redness and inflammation. It technically isn't a cure, but it sure does provide relief when the creams and lotions. However, it might require several sessions for this treatment to work. So, be prepared. Do not forget the fact that keratosis pilaris is just a common skin condition without a cure. But, with a regular skin care routine and lots of moisturizer, it can keep the little bumps in check. If the redness and inflammation persist, do get it checked up without a delay.
