Reading on will help you know more about these common GYN procedures and surgeries before you need them, and you’ll be a step ahead when your gynaecologist informs you of the need for further evaluation of your problem.rnHas ever going to your obstetrician or gynaecologist scared the living daylights out of you? It isn’t too often that an OB/GYN specialist asks for further, introspective tests or surgical procedures until your doctor finds something out of place. And, for a woman, it is more than necessary to keep a check on the health and fitness levels. It is known that millions of women each year face the uncertainty of having a gynaecological procedure or surgery performed. Cervical cryosurgery or cryotherapy is a gynaecological treatment, in which a section of the cervix is frozen. Gynaecologists often recommend of perform Cryosurgery of the cervix for destroying abnormal cervical cells, which show changes that may lead to cancer. These changes are called precancerous cells. Your gynaecologist probably uses the term "cervical dysplasia". One must also know that "Cryosurgery" is performed only after a colposcopy test result confirms the presence of abnormal cervical cells. Cryotherapy is also used for the treatment of "Cervicitis" otherwise known as "inflammation of the cervix". If your annual "Pap smear" test indicates the presence of abnormal cervical cells, or cervical dysplasia, only then will your doctor will prescribe a LEEP procedure. The loop electrosurgical excision procedure, or LEEP procedure, is one of several procedures your doctor has available to help diagnose and treat abnormal cervical cells. Other procedures your doctor may want you to either have before or during the LEEP procedure include - a colposcopy and / or a cone biopsy. The LEEP procedure uses a thin wire loop electrode, attached to an electrosurgical generator. This generator transmits a painless electrical current that quickly cuts away the affected cervical tissue in the immediate area of the loop wire. This causes the abnormal cells to rapidly heat and burst, and separates the tissue as the loop wire moves through the cervix. Hysteroscopy proves to be a sure shot method for your gynaecologist to look inside your uterus. A hysteroscope is a thin, telescope-like instrument, which is inserted into the uterus through the vagina and cervix. This tool often helps a physician diagnose or treat a uterine problem. Hysteroscopy is minor surgery performed either in your physician's clinic or in a hospital environment. It can be performed with local, regional, or general anaesthesia--sometimes no anaesthesia is needed. This procedure involves little risk for most women. A minimally invasive surgical technique, Laparoscopy, is used in procedures such as tubal ligation, gallbladder removal or hiatal hernia repair. Normally, it is performed in the outpatient surgery unit of a hospital. However, in most cases, patients can return home a few hours after a laparoscopic procedure. The D&C or Dilation and Curettage, is one of the most common surgical procedures performed on women for diagnosing or treating abnormal uterine bleeding. Moreover, Dilation and Curettage procedure provides important information about whether uterine cancer is present. Dilation and curettage is also commonly performed following miscarriage or abortion in cases where the uterus fails to fully empty its content.
