What is dementia support group? Alike other support groups, these groups are typically groups of people who come together to support each other through various emotional and life problems. They meet on a regular basis which can be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc. The meetings are generally structured as drop-in events. You will find most of these groups are small so that each member of the group gets an opportunity to get to know each other and share his problems with others. These groups are mainly directed by a predetermined and trained leader. For mentally-disabled people, these groups are of great importance as they allow them to come together in the journey called life. Support groups provide a way for the family care giver to take stock of their own health while learning from others, says Erin Schoenecker, a Support Group Coordinator at Alzheimer's Association of Colorado. They can also simply be a place to catch your breath and regroup for whatever comes next.
