Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disorder in which the pancreas fails to function properly in the secretion of insulin. Due to the low level of insulin in the body, the glucose produced as a result of digestion of food cannot be used properly by the body. This glucose accumulates in the blood causing hyperglycemia or high blood sugar level. Parijatak at Nagpur is one of the leading Ayurvedic center in Central India that provides the most effective and best diabetes treatment in Nagpur.

What is Diabetes

Essentially diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder which does not have any cure in the allopathic system of medicine. Allopathy simply curbs the level of sugar in the blood and as diabetes is a progressive disorder, the dosage of medicine keeps on increasing until the situation becomes very difficult to control. Apart from pills diabetes patients may also have to rely on insulin injections if the level of sugar in the blood is too high. The hormone named insulin is necessary for the body to make use of the glucose produced as a result of digestion of food. In people with diabetes either the production of insulin is not sufficient or it is not used for the conversion of glucose to energy During the process of digestion, all food is converted to glucose and it is important for the body because it provides energy to the body cells to function normally. However, in people with diabetes mellitus, this glucose is not utilized properly by the body and accumulates in the blood. High sugar levels in the blood can damage the blood vessels of vital organs like the heart, kidneys, eyes or the nervous system. If not controlled properly diabetes can cause heart attack, kidney failure glaucoma which is blindness and problems with the nervous system.

Causes of diabetes

Usually, diabetes is a hereditary disorder, but there are cases where people get diabetes in spite of the lack of any family history. The factors which can cause diabetes include intake of excessive foods which are difficult to digest like creams, fried foods, etc. Then again lack of physical exercise, mental stress, too much sleep, overeating and the resulting excessive weight, too much consumption of sugar and refined carbohydrates can also cause diabetes. Too much intake of proteins and fats can also cause diabetes, whereas carbohydrates are the main culprits.

Ayurvedic Diet and Lifestyle Advice

If you have diabetes then the above-mentioned foods should be avoided and you should consume as much of whole grains like wheat bread and brown rice. Garlic, bitter gourd, onion, spinach, raw banana, and black plum are also good for diabetics. At the same time, fenugreek seeds are very good at controlling blood sugar levels. You should take a spoonful of fenugreek seeds with warm water every morning on an empty stomach for controlling blood sugar. Avoid sweet foods which contain refined sugar. Jaggery and honey are diabetic friendly sweeteners and you should use these instead of refined sugar. Even starchy food like potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, high-fat milk and yogurt, heavy oily and spicy foods should be avoided. Sweet fruits like mangoes, pineapple, grapes, etc should also be removed from your diet. Brisk walking is the best exercise to control diabetes; you should walk for 30-40 minutes morning and evening. Avoid sleeping in the day time because this increases Kledaha Kapha aggravating high blood sugar levels.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Diabetes

Ayurvedic treatment for diabetes includes herbal medicine and purifying panchakarma which includes procedures like Vamana, Virechana, vasti, etc. the treatment is based on the severity of the problem. These natural remedies are meant to increase the level of insulin sensitivity of the type 4 glucose receptors and reducing the insulin resistance. Even the secretion of insulin is increased and beta cells are regenerated.

Yoga for Diabetes
