Know when you need a pool filter repair

pool filter repair is a child’s play if you know how a pool filter works and the major concerns in a pool’s filter? A pool pump and a filter together make a pool’s filtration system. The pump sucks water from the pool, pushes it through the filter for cleaning and returns the sparkling water to the pool. This is how a pool’s filtration system works. But a problem may arise anytime either in the filter or the pump or in both.

For instance the filter’s pressure gauge rising to an extreme high and the return water flow to the pool slowing down considerably is an indication that the pool filter needs a good cleaning. Correct this tricky pressure and water flow issue by a thorough cleaning or simple backwashing.

A pool filter requires an airtight vacuum environment to operate properly therefore it is imperative that all connection points attached to the filter are air tight. With a leaking hose the air could enter into the pool’s filtration system and thus compromise the filter’s cleaning ability. Check the connection points at regular interval to detect leaking hoses, if any.

Sometimes impeller becomes the source of trouble. If, despite cleaning the filter and tightening the hoses, the pressure/water flow problem persists then the impeller must be the cause of the problem. There may debris that is affecting the impeller from functioning properly. Remove the impeller from the pump’s basket to clean it of any residue. If the impeller wobbles on touching or appears to be broken then just cleaning is not a solution. The impeller needs to be replaced on an urgent basis. With proper tools and adept handling anyone can change the impeller.

If the filter is sending dirt, sand or diatomaceous earth in case of DE filters back into the swimming pool, inspect filtration system that includes filter cartridge or fingers. Pool filters come either with fingers or cartridge. Torn fabric on fingers or frayed fabric on cartridge shows that it’s time to replace the cartridge or the fingers.

Regular pool filter maintenance helps avoid pool filter repair and improve the overall health of the swimming pool as well. During periodical checks, one needs to look over all the vital parts of the pump and the filter. Check the connection points and clear the impeller of any debris. A swimming pool clear of debris is inviting. It entertains you and provides ample space for rest and relaxation. Bear in mind that no pool is better than a muddy pool.
