International classification of Diseases or better known as the ICD codes can be easily find on various paperwork of patients which include the physician records, death certificate and hospital records. ICD 10 codes are different from the earlier versions of the codes. These codes are broken into various chapters and also sub chapters. They generally consist of two digits with letter to the left of the decimal point and then a disease on the right hand side. Diseases are generally grouped. Suppose you have to code cancer then you should place the letter C just at the beginning of the code. This type of coding is meant for better evaluation of data. It will provide a complete picture and also quality care.

This new type of ICD-10 code will take effect from 1st October 2013. It will be mandatory for all medical billing services to comply with this new kind of rule. Anyone who fails to do so then they would have trouble while getting the insurance reimbursements. The coders generally have to work very carefully and closely with physicians and should educate them with the various medical billing codes and the methods associated with such codes. The super bills will be no longer effective. There will new software for this type of billing code and this software will accept the codes with longer digits.

This new code will change the patient coverage. Healthcare providers and physicians will have to be more specific during documentation. There will be more payment limitations for such type of services. The patients have to be educated about the coverage charges. The number of the codes will obviously increase from 14000 to 68000 codes. There will be codes which are alpha numeric in nature and the length of the code will be from 3 to 7 characters. This will offer specific descriptions. Due to the specificity and the flexibility of the code the healthcare services will be more improved.
